NymVPN is now in free beta testing, and anyone can get a credential to try out the world’s most private VPN service. Importantly, the WireGuard protocol has been introduced to the NymVPN Fast Mode and will soon be available for Windows. In addition to the NymVPN Anonymous Mode, the Fast Mode provides everyday privacy protections while delivering a top-notch user experience for browsing and streaming.
We've also released our Trust Center, added new entry and exit countries, app translations, and more! Here’s a breakdown of everything that happened last month.
General update
In September, we focused on enhancing NymVPN in three key areas:
- Prepping WireGuard for launch
- Beginning to address connection leaks
- Laying the groundwork for the upcoming launch of zk-nym-based credentials
Apps update
WireGuard launch
We are thrilled to announce the successful deployment of WireGuard binaries on multiple production gateways, all made possible by our vibrant community of operators. This enhancement powers NymVPN’s decentralized Fast Mode with cutting-edge encrypted routing technology. With speeds now surpassing 100 Mbps and latencies under 50 ms, users can enjoy robust privacy protections along with a seamless experience for everyday online activities such as browsing and streaming.
Arabic and Persian localizations
The Nym community is actively working to localize the NymVPN experience into multiple languages, broadening the app’s accessibility to new countries. In September, NymVPN localization into Arabic and Persian started, enabling us to connect with even more users worldwide. Please note, however, that our in-app UX is not yet fully optimized to support right-to-left languages. If you want to help contribute to the project, get started.
The localized versions are now live on NymVPN’s Android, Linux, and Windows apps. Localization for our iOS/macOS apps and website is coming soon.
To stay updated on our app’s progress, remember to check our public roadmap.
Network update: New nodes in Estonia and Switzerland
Thanks to our thriving community, we added new locations for NymVPN nodes:
- New entry and exit gateways are now available in Estonia
- Switzerland is now offered as a mixnet exit (not only a mixnet entry)
- Note: nodes in Australia (entry and exit) and Romania (entry) were temporarily deactivated
If you’d like NymVPN to offer entry or exit gateways in additional locations valuable to you, please get in touch! Or learn how to set up a node yourself and contribute to the growing online privacy revolution. You can even gain rewards for your work through the Nym Delegations Program.
Website update: Trust Center release
Given that transparency in logging and data practices is a top priority for VPN users, Nym has launched the first version of the Trust Center. This platform provides users with key information about Nym’s security (open source code, security audits), science (research papers on the Nym network and mixnet), policies, support for privacy advocates, as well as Nym’s response to the industry-standard “Signals of Trustworthy VPNs.” We hope you appreciate Nym’s commitment to transparency and look forward to enriching the Trust Center with more information in the coming months!
Coming soon
With the commercial launch of NymVPN in sight this Fall, all hands are on deck at Nym. And the next months will see some important updates to the NymVPN app:
- Release of the WireGuard Fast Mode on Windows
- Reduced leaks (IPv6, DNS, etc.) while connected to the app
- Launch of zk-nym-enabled accounts
- Launch of localized Apple apps and website
- Improved censorship-resistant gateways
- And much more!
In the meantime, stay private with NymVPN, and see you next month!
