October has been a busy month behind the scenes for the Nym dev team. Nym is preparing everything that needs to be done so that a stable release of NymVPN will arrive in Beta testers hands in November. This means fixing as many bugs as possible, plugging leaks, and improving connectivity.
Thanks to the hundreds of respondents to our recent Pulse Check survey: the feedback was invaluable and Nym is working around the clock to implement needed improvements.
So here’s a recap of what has been accomplished this month, and what to look forward to in November.
General update
This is where Nym is at in the timeline to the full commercial launch of NymVPN.
In October, the following has been the main focus:
- Preparing NymVPN for its stable release in November
- Preparing WireGuard release for Windows
- Addressing leaks that may impact user data
- Launching zk-nym credentials for anonymous use of the Nym network, which will pave the way for payments which are unlinkable to NymVPN traffic
- Setting up the payment flow for the early-bird launch in December
Apps update
Easy access to test credentials
The credential system for NymVPN for Alpha and Beta has definitely been a work in progress this year, and we’ve heard you! The lengthy steps to get new credentials have been removed. Now you can simply enter your email address and instantly receive a free 30-day access voucher on site.
Keep in mind that in December, payments will be live for purchasing NymVPN with early-bird discounts to be announced shortly!
Fixing leaks
Having a VPN that is leak-free is a crucial privacy expectation. The team has been working tirelessly to address all IPv6 and DNS leaks for a more secure user experience. The team will continue addressing other leaks throughout the Q4 of 2024 and develop a full killswitch / lockdown mode in Q1 of 2025.
Connectivity improvements
We’ve made app connectivity improvements for a smoother and more reliable connection experience. This has been done via multiple bug fixes and the implementation of a more robust “state machine.”
Linux app on Flathub
For Linux users, NymVPN is now available in Flathub.
As soon as the app is polished, it will be simultaneously released on the Apple App Store, Google Play, and F-Droid stores.
macOS 15 Sequoia compatibility
NymVPN is now fully compatible with the latest macOS version, v15.
Nym Network update
New exit locations
NymVPN now offers to exit in the following locations:
- Anonymous Mode: Australia, China mainland
- Fast Mode: Bahrain, China mainland, Switzerland, Vietnam
Tor access
Thanks to an update to the Nym exit policy, Tor can now be accessed via NymVPN on ports 9001 and 9030.
Coming soon
The next milestone on the NymVPN roadmap is the November stable release. This will involve:
- Major leaks fixes
- zk-nym access credentials
- Improved user experience
In the meantime, stay private with NymVPN, and see you next month!
