Improved censorship resistance, new app onboarding, and improvements to DNS and bandwidth errors

Nym is pleased to announce the first new NymVPN release of 2026: NymVPN v2026.1.
Significant improvements have been made to DNS to improve connections in censored regions, as well as to server selection and bandwidth error messaging. The results are a significantly smoother and reliable NymVPN experience.
The team has also improved the onboarding for the apps to make it more informative and accessible for new users.
New onboarding for new users
Improved DNS for censorship resistance
Following successes in the Android v2025.20 app in overcoming connection restrictions in censored regions, improvements to DNS and connection have been applied to all apps.

Android: Dynamic server connection
The NymVPN Android app now dynamically reconnects when both changing servers and toggling between Fast and Anonymous modes.
Important fixes
Bandwidth bug
A bug causing users to receive an error message incorrectly that they are out of bandwidth has been fixed.
Fix for custom DNS selection
A bug has been resolved on Android resulting from the VPN tunnel not reconnecting and causing custom DNS to not be applied after selection.
Improved server search
For Android, Linux, and Windows apps, UX improvements have been made to the server selection and search interface.
Other UX changes
- iOS & macOS: Toggled added for AmneziaWG in Settings > Anti-censorship
- macOS: IPv6 toggle can now be turned on and off
What’s next for NymVPN
Here’s some stuff to look out for in the coming releases of NymVPN:
- Logins from social accounts if desired
- Mixnet optimizations to increase speed and security
