What is the Alephium project?

The Alephium project is a developer-friendly network that’s optimised for DeFi and smart contract applications. The project aims to combine the decentralisation, self-sovereignty and security of Bitcoin with high-performance, accessibility and energy efficiency. To achieve this, it employs a ‘Proof of Less Work’ algorithm to save on energy and improve on the UTXO model of BTC to make it scalable and programmable.

In short: Alephium is programmable and designed with security in mind, offering the programmability of ETH but with an Asset Permission System to securely manage decentralised applications. It is designed to keep transactions running as the project scales, even under heavy traffic — promising to allow up to 10,000 transactions per second.

Its ‘Proof of Less Work’ algorithm dynamically adjusts the work required to mine new blocks, reducing energy consumption. The chain structure benefits from custom VM Alphred, which introduces trustless, peer to peer smart contract transactions. Alephium’s own programming language, Ralph, promises to allow builders to create efficient and secure smart contracts, easily.

Here’s how to use the Alephium wallet through NymConnect, securing traffic patterns against observers!

Using Alephium’s wallet through NymConnect

Step 1: First, you need to download and install the Alephium wallet:

Step 2: Next, download NymConnect at the following link:

Step 3: Open NymConnect, and click on the drop-down menu at the top left of the screen. Select Settings, then hit ‘Select Service Provider’, and hit the ON button.

Copy and paste the following Service Provider :

Step 4:

Once connected, open the Alephium wallet. Head to Settings, then Network, then toggle Advanced Settings on. This will allow you to enter SOCKS5 settings.

Add the following SOCKS5 settings and hit save:

Proxy host : 127.0.0.1

Proxy port : 1080

Now all that’s left is activating NymConnect — and then you can use the Alephium wallet via the Nym mixnet.

To deactivate NymConnect, just click the disconnect button. That’s it!
